Analysis Of Fish Feed Market In Niger Delta

The fastest-growing non-oil sector of the Niger Delta is aquaculture. More than 60% of the cost to raise farmed catfish in Nigeria, the dominant type of aquaculture, is covered by feed. The issue of “cost of feed being high” is a constant theme in field work. Therefore, there is a demand for feed-saving solutions. PIND and Delta State Government met to discuss ways to stimulate growth in the sector during 2012. PIND, the Delta State Department of Fisheries and Delta State Ministry of Commerce teamed up to create this study. PIND, the Delta State Department of Fisheries, the Delta State Ministry of Commerce and FUTA Business Development Company Ltd. reached a consensus in October 2012 on the need for a deeper understanding of fish feed. This report offers valuable insights into small-scale farmers’ feed consumption in Delta State. It shows where there are major opportunities to improve feed delivery, sales and utilization by farmers. It also stimulates significant growth in this sector of aquaculture.
